Which Bodywork Service Is Right for You?
Choosing a bodywork service can feel surprisingly difficult.
If you've never experienced therapeutic bodywork before, terms like CranioSacral Therapy, Recovery Bodywork, Nervous System Reset, and Reiki may not mean much on their own. Even if you've received massage in the past, you may still wonder which approach best matches what you're experiencing now.
The good news is that you don't need to have everything figured out before scheduling.
At Stillness Renewal, every session begins with a conversation about what you've been experiencing, your goals, and the kind of support you're looking for. Together, we'll determine which approach is likely to be the best fit.
This guide introduces each service, explains how they differ, and helps you decide where to begin.
There Isn't One "Best" Service
Each service offered at Stillness Renewal is designed with a different emphasis.
Some approaches work more directly with muscles and movement.
Others focus on nervous system regulation, gentle listening, or creating space for the body to settle.
Although the services are distinct, they are not isolated from one another. The body does not separate muscles, movement, stress, emotions, and the nervous system into neat categories, and neither do we.
Many people could benefit from more than one approach. The goal is not to find the "perfect" service. It's to begin with the one that best matches your current needs.
Nervous System Reset
Sometimes the body doesn't simply feel tight.
It feels constantly "on."
You may notice difficulty relaxing, persistent stress, shallow breathing, poor sleep, or a feeling that your body never fully settles, even when you're trying to rest. Learn more about why stress can stay in the body.
The Nervous System Reset was created for those experiences.
Rather than focusing only on muscles, this session supports regulation throughout the entire body by thoughtfully integrating therapeutic bodywork with techniques that encourage relaxation, safety, and restoration.
You may appreciate this approach if you:
Feel chronically stressed or overwhelmed
Have difficulty unwinding
Notice tension throughout your entire body
Feel mentally exhausted as well as physically tired
Want a session that emphasizes slowing down rather than simply working deeper
Many clients describe leaving with a greater sense of ease, steadiness, and calm. If rest itself doesn’t always leave you feeling restored, learn why supported rest can feel different from simply taking time off.
CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is one of the gentlest approaches offered at Stillness Renewal.
Using light, sustained contact, CST works with the body's natural rhythms and the craniosacral system while supporting the nervous system's ability to regulate and adapt.
This approach may be especially appealing if you:
Prefer gentle touch over deep pressure
Experience recurring headaches, jaw tension, or neck discomfort
Feel sensitive to traditional massage
Want a quiet, deeply restorative experience
Are curious about nervous system regulation and whole-body therapeutic care
Although the contact is light, many people describe the experience as deeply relaxing, calming, and restorative.

Recovery Bodywork
Recovery Bodywork is a hands-on therapeutic session designed for people experiencing muscular tension, physical discomfort, restricted movement, or the effects of repetitive daily activities.
This approach may be a good fit if you:
Feel tight, stiff, or sore
Experience neck, shoulder, or back tension
Have physically demanding work or hobbies
Spend long hours sitting at a desk
Are recovering from exercise or repetitive strain
Prefer moderate to deeper therapeutic pressure when appropriate
Sessions may include a variety of therapeutic techniques to improve mobility, reduce muscular tension, and help restore comfortable movement.
Recovery Bodywork is often chosen by people whose primary concerns are physical discomfort, restricted movement, or muscular tension.
Reiki
Reiki offers a quiet, restorative experience centered on stillness, presence, and relaxation.
Some people seek Reiki because they appreciate a gentle, non-invasive session that allows them to slow down and reconnect with themselves.
Others simply value setting aside uninterrupted time for rest and reflection.
Reiki may be a good fit if you:
Want a deeply calming experience
Feel emotionally or mentally drained
Appreciate quiet, reflective sessions
Are interested in exploring Reiki as part of your overall well-being
Experiences vary from person to person, and there is no expectation that you feel or notice anything specific during a session.
What If More Than One Sounds Right?
That's completely normal.
Many people identify with more than one description.
For example, someone experiencing chronic neck tension may also feel overwhelmed by stress. Another person recovering from an injury may also have difficulty relaxing. Why can stress continue affecting the body long after the stressful event has passed? Learn more in Why Does Stress Stay in the Body?
The body rarely presents one concern at a time.
Rather than trying to fit yourself into a single category, think about what feels most important to you right now. Your initial session and conversation can help determine whether another approach may also be beneficial in the future.
Still Not Sure?
If you're unsure where to begin, don't let that stop you from scheduling.
Many people arrive without knowing which service they need, and that's perfectly okay.
We'll talk about what you've been experiencing, answer your questions, and recommend the approach that seems most appropriate for your goals. If another service would likely serve you better, we'll tell you.
The goal isn't to steer you toward a particular service. It's to help you receive the care that's most appropriate for you.
